Rep. Omar Attended Terrorist Fundraiser

AG Jeff Landry notes Rep Illhan Omar was attending a fundraising event for a terrorist-linked organization during controversial 9/11 remarks.

BATON ROUGE, LA - Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, a former Member of Congress and an Army veteran, slammed United States Representative Illhan Omar for her dismissive remarks about the worst terrorist attack on American soil and - more importantly - her support of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

"Despite repeated claims that CAIR is a benign, mainstream civil-rights advocacy group, the truth remains that CAIR has a long history of financing terrorist groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and Al Qaeda," stated AG Landry. "Since 9/11, 15 CAIR leaders have been criminally convicted or implicated in terrorism investigations - including one convicted for violating sanctions of Iraq and another for financing Al-Qaeda and the Taliban."

"In fact, CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest successful prosecution of financing terrorism in this nation's history - the Holy Land Foundation case (HLF)," continued AG Landry. "During the trial, CAIR was identified as a Muslim Brotherhood front group and FBI agents testified that it also operates as a front for Hamas."

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrat leaders should end the political posturing, call for Rep. Omar to end her association with is group, and work to cut funding to front groups like this, and its members who support it," added Landry.

Last month at a fundraiser for CAIR, Rep. Omar proclaimed that organization was "founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties."

"Rep. Omar, who has a penchant for disrespectful remarks, recently exercised her First Amendment rights by referring to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 as 'something,'" said AG Landry. "However, what is more troubling than her anti-American comments is her support of the organization for which she was so honored to fundraise."

On June 5, 2016 the Louisiana House of Representatives officially passed Resolution 170 which urged and requested law enforcement and governmental agencies avoid and suspend all formal contacts and formal outreach activities with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).  The Resolution detailed CAIR’s terrorism links and criminal convictions of CAIR leaders.  The Resolution can be viewed here:  https://legiscan.com/LA/text/HR170/2016.

The group's funneling of money to those actively seeking to kill Americans actually prompted AG Landry to write then-United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch regarding the continuing activities of CAIR. A copy of that letter may be found at [link].

"Given CAIR's ties to terrorist activities, any rational person would agree that it is not a group with whom a Member if Congress should be associating," concluded AG Landry.
