BATON ROUGE, LA –
Attorney General Jeff Landry issued the following statement after the Louisiana
House of Representatives advanced legislation that would provide for the
confidentiality of identifying information of certain persons or entities
involved in the execution of a death sentence:
“I applaud the House of
Representatives for passing HB 258, an important step toward resumption of
legally-required executions. I am thankful for the leadership of Representative
Nicholas Muscarello, who shares my commitment to getting justice for victims of
our State’s most heinous crimes. Representative Muscarello’s measure would help
ensure our State’s most heinous criminals receive the punishment justly imposed
by a jury of their peers.
With numerous reports by multiple news outlets that
Governor John Bel Edwards would sign the bill into law, I expect Senate
President John Alario to give this measure a quick and fair debate. And with
his previous support of crime victims and the rule of law, I trust President
Alario will stand with Representative Muscarello and me to deliver the promises
our State has made to crime victims’ families and friends.”

today by a vote of 68-30.
