Attorney General Jeff Landry Calls on Governor John Bel Edwards to Protect Patients with Pre-Existing Conditions, Following Passage of SB 173 by the Louisiana House

BATON ROUGE, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry issued the following statement after the Louisiana House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Health Care Coverage for Louisiana Families Protection Act, a bipartisan bill to protect patients with pre-existing conditions should federal courts continue to rule the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional:

“We are one step closer to Louisiana becoming the country’s leader in protecting patients with pre-existing conditions. With near unanimous support, the Louisiana House has voted to put politics aside and unify in this constitutionally-sound, state-based solution to cover our neighbors with pre-existing conditions. The measure passed today has Republican and Democrat co-sponsors and was voted unanimously out of the Louisiana Senate. I call on the Governor to follow the will of our people’s representatives and sign the bill into law as soon as possible.”

SB 173 passed the House by a vote of 90-9. It previously passed the Senate 38-0, and cleared the House Insurance Committee and the Senate Health and Welfare Committee without opposition.
