Armed Law Enforcement Officer from Attorney General’s Office Was on
Campus
BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry today issued a statement in response to the incident at LSU that prompted a school warning for students to “run, hide or fight.”
Yesterday, an armed law enforcement officer from the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office was on campus at the invitation of LSU officials to help educate students and protect them from crime.
“Many in the public do not know the breadth and depth of work that our armed law enforcement officers do every day for the people of Louisiana. From apprehending fugitives to arresting predators to educating citizens on ways to protect themselves from crime, our office does valuable work for the State and her people. Education and outreach are critical components in our efforts to protect Louisiana.
One of our POST-certified, armed law enforcement officers was on campus yesterday to educate students on ways to protect themselves online. Our office was invited by the Women’s Center to present during LSU's inaugural Welcome Week. This Engage.Lead.Geaux event was focused on Social Media Responsibility to help students stay safe on social media, wisely use their platforms, protect their identities, and understand laws affecting the use of the Internet.
We hope this event is rescheduled soon as cyber safety is a necessary element in protecting Louisiana students and families.
