Statement from Attorney General Liz Murrill on lawsuit challenging FEMA’s Risk Rating 2.0

Today, Judge Darrel James Papillion, with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, gave a ruling on our lawsuit challenging FEMA’s skyrocketing rates for the National Flood Insurance Program.

The judge ruled that all but one of our claims can move forward. In doing so, he recognized the irreparable harm that these rates are causing policyholders across Louisiana and the nation.

“The National Flood Insurance program is a disaster. We are disappointed in the ruling, which elevated the government’s admittedly flawed program over people who are facing the loss of their homes and their communities at the hands of FEMA. Our fight is not over yet. As we move through the next phases of litigation, we’re hopeful the courts will recognize FEMA’s unlawful behavior and hold it accountable,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
