BATON ROUGE, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry today announced a settlement in the case against The Mandatory Poster Agency, Inc. (MPA) – a company that mailed deceptive solicitations to over 100,000 Louisiana businesses.

“Businesses that withhold their corporate identity and location and those that are misleading with their products and services create fear and mistrust,” said Attorney General Jeff Landry. “Deceiving hard-working entrepreneurs and business owners is not acceptable; and my office is committed to bringing scammers engaging in fraud, corruption, and unfair trade practices to justice.”

MPA, a corporation registered in Michigan and doing business here as Corporate Records Service and Louisiana Council for Corporations, solicited businesses registered with the Louisiana Secretary of State requesting a $125 fee to receive annual corporate minutes that, “fulfill Louisiana law.” Unfortunately, over 2,000 businesses paid the fee.

This settlement includes a payment to Louisiana in the total amount of $100,000 and offers of restitution to the Louisiana customers who paid for, “corporate records services,” which could total over $250,000.00. MPA must also send letters offering refunds to the Louisiana businesses that have yet to be reimbursed their $125.00 payments. Those letters must be sent within 30 days of May 6, 2016, and will include instructions for the steps to take to receive the refund.
