BATON ROUGE, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry has announced that nearly 2,000 Louisiana students who attended schools operated by Corinthian Colleges, Inc. between 2010 and 2014 may be eligible for loan forgiveness. 

“Thousands of Louisiana students were misled by institutions who engaged in deceptive trade practices by misrepresenting job placement rates for many of their programs,” said General Landry. “My Public Protection Division and I are working to get justice for these students, and we will continue to fight for all the hard-working people of our State.” 

General Landry’s office will soon be sending letters to Louisiana students who either attended one of the Corinthian Colleges in another state or online. The letters will explain the relief available to eligible students and will contain an enclosed application that must be filed with the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE). If a student’s federal loan is cancelled, he or she will make no more payments on the loan and any payments already made will be refunded. It is important to note that students should continue making payments until they are notified of their federal loans being dismissed.  

General Landry also warned all current or prospective college students to be aware of student loan scams. “It is free to apply for loan forgiveness or get information on loan forgiveness for free through the USDOE,” explained General Landry. “The USDOE also never charges application or maintenance fees.”
