Collections Section represents 25 of Louisiana’s public colleges, universities, technical and community colleges; the State Department of Education, the Board of Regents, and the Office of Student Financial Assistance, in the collection and litigation of defaulted educational loans/benefits.  Over 47,000 educational accounts valued in excess of $76 million are currently placed for collection.

Additionally, the Collections Section represents 28 state agencies, including the Louisiana Department of Revenue, in the pursuant of debts owed the State of Louisiana for various reasons. This collection work for state agencies has grown in the last few years, creating several opportunities in collections for advanced legal research and more litigation.

This section is totally self-generated receiving no state general fund dollars for its operation. For State Fiscal Year 16, over $13.3 million was collected on behalf of the state through our section. This was over a 20% increase in total dollars collected in the previous state fiscal year.

Coming soon, the attorney's general office seeks to provide a mechanism by which to take online payments for collections.
