Two Arrested in Alleged Child Pornography Scheme

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry today announced the arrests of a man and a woman in an apparent team effort to exchange child pornography.

“It is unimaginable that people would violate children’s innocence by spreading child pornography,” said General Landry. “Every time an image or video is shared, the child is re-victimized; so our office is working tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to find and expose child predators.”

The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) discovered the following suspected perpetrators were allegedly exchanging sexual abuse images/videos of children:

Roy Melancon, 39 of Independence, was arrested on 120 counts of Possession of Sexual Abuse Images/Videos of Children (under the age of 13). He was arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Prison following an investigation by the LBI Cyber Crime Unit, the LBI Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO), and the Hammond Police Department. There are also pending charges against Melancon in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes.

Ashley Ghaith, 26 of Kenner, was arrested on one count of Possession of Sexual Abuse Images/Videos of Children (under the age of 13), one count of Improper Supervision of a Minor, and one count of Video Voyeurism. She was arrested and booked into the Kenner City Jail following a joint investigation between the LBI Cyber Crime Unit, the LBI Violent Crimes Unit, HSI, the JPSO, and the Kenner Police Department.

General Landry encourages anyone with additional information on Melancon or Ghaith to please call the LBI at 800-256-4506. Callers do not have to give their names.
